What if September was the best month of your life?
Last month I experimented with this as a journal prompt, and it was a great conversation starter around the kitchen table too.
At first, it feels like a bit of a grandiose statement (I might even be tempted to roll my eyes at myself!) but allowing ourselves to think like this can help us shift to a more curious and excitable mindset.
I think most of us are pretty good at imagining what could go wrong and worrying about things that might never happen. But what would happen if we allowed ourselves to imagine the best-case scenario?
Here are the things I learned last month:
Gratitude. A lot of the ingredients that I identified that could possibly allow me to have the best month of my life were within reach or already present.
Being alert to opportunities. I had allowed myself to visualise what opportunities I would love to come my way, so my brain was primed to connect that vision with real-life events. Noticing small moments of alignment, it’s a lot of fun.
Freedom to think big. As adults, we are so quick to shut down our own dreams. What a shame. In the big, fantastical daydreams about what we’d like our future (or month ahead) to look like, there are clues that can help inform little edits that can be made straight away.
Even for those with the most tightly packed diary and schedule, there is a lot of unknown in the month ahead, so why not try this little experiment and view it with excitement and possibility?
This would work really well at the start of a team meeting too, aligning everyone around a shorter-term shared vision and perhaps even uncover anything getting in the way too.
